Now Available! Training and Instructional Materials for the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions (FEMA P-752CD)
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is pleased to announce that the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Training and Instructional Materials (FEMA P-752CD) is now available from the FEMA Publications Warehouse.
One of the objectives of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) is to support the improvement of national standards and building codes and to advocate for their adoption and enforcement. The NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures. 2009 Edition (FEMA P-750) is an important resource that translates new knowledge, research results, and design methods for the national standards and building codes. In collaboration with the Building Seismic Safety Council, FEMA has published two supporting documents for the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Design Examples (FEMA P-751CD) and the new 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Training and Instructional Materials (FEMA P-752CD).
FEMA P-752CD presents a series of PowerPoint slides and instructional materials (student handouts and notes pages) that are aligned with the design examples in FEMA P-751CD. In addition to materials updated from its previous edition (FEMA P-451B), FEMA P-752CD includes new units on Ground Motions, Composite/Steel Construction, Pre-Cast Design, and Seismically Isolated Structures, as well as an introduction to the latest versions of NONLIN and EQ Tools, two free software programs for the computation of dynamic response analysis of simple linear and nonlinear structures and design earthquake ground motions.
Most of the modifications and additions in the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Provisions have been adopted and incorporated in ASCE 7-10, the International Building Code (IBC), and the International Residential Code (IRC) 2012. Training materials in the 15 units of FEMA P-752CD provide users with information on the earthquake engineering and research results adopted in the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions and the referenced ASCE 7 Standard and national model building codes IBC and IRC. The materials can be presented to engineers and architects by qualified professionals with expertise in the practice of earthquake engineering, by those who wish to enhance their understanding of earthquake engineering, and by engineering academics as the basis for classroom instruction on earthquake-resistant design.
