CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SYMPOSIUM

Building on the successes of the Critical Infrastructure Symposiums of 2010 and 2011 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the 2012 Symposium will be held April 23-24, 2012, at Arlington Hilton Hotel in Arlington, Va. The Critical Infrastructure Symposium is hosted by The Infrastructure Security Partnership, Society of American Military Engineers, George Mason University and U.S. Military Academy. The Symposium is a collaborative learning community of students, educators, practitioners and government officials engaged in developing the next generation of critical infrastructure protection and resilience leaders, technologies and strategies.

The Critical Infrastructure Symposium is not about policy, engineering, or asset protection. Instead, it is about the integration of these disciplines with economics, insurance, security and everything else to form a coherent whole. As such, the theme for the 2012 Symposium is "Full Spectrum Resilience."

College students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty conducting research in critical infrastructure protection and resilience are invited to submit and present papers. Industry professionals and government officials are invited to give presentations or simply attend the symposium to participate in the discussions. Student papers are essential to the success of this event and are strongly encouraged.

Representatives from George Mason University will present an infrastructure education workshop before the opening session on Monday, April 23. The goal of this workshop will be to determine best practices for adapting common critical infrastructure protection curricula to the specific educational and professional development models already in place in engineering, emergency response and security, in both the private and public sectors.

Our objective for this symposium is to keep registration costs as affordable as possible for student attendees. Registration will open in early January 2012; an announcement containing the registration link and detailed information will be e-mailed to individuals on our mailing list. We look forward to seeing you in April at the 2012 Critical Infrastructure Symposium.

 

Deadlines and Submission Instructions

Students and faculty must submit an abstract, paper and presentation. Professional participants are only required to submit an abstract and presentation, but may submit a paper if desired.

All presenters will be selected based on their abstract of the paper or presentation. Each abstract will contain the following information: paper title, author(s) name and affiliation, faculty advisor and affiliation if a student, recommended breakout session, 400 word abstract, and 100 word biography of the primary author. Title the file as "AUTHORS LAST NAME-PAPER TITLE.pdf" and submit the abstract file via e-mail to Bill Anderson at wanderson@tisp.org by February 1, 2012.

All abstracts will be reviewed and notifications sent to submitters whether their paper or presentation abstracts are accepted. Presentations will be in PowerPoint.
